Quem estiver pensando em registrar um domínio na Internet, deve antes verificar se o domínio desejado já não foi registrado por alguém.

A FAPESP oferece um serviço de consulta, utilizando rwhois, em http://www.fapesp.br/rwhois.html.

A tela, através do browser lynx, é a seguinte:

     Rwhois: ____________________
     Type of Query [domain_]
  
     consult clear

Basta digitar, após Rwhois:, o nome do domínio que se quer pesquisar. Além da pesquisa por nome de domínio, pode-se pesquisar também as opções user, host e network.

A opção mais utilizada é a pesquisa por domínio. A seguir incluo um exemplo para determinar se o domínio netroad.com.br já foi registrado por alguém:
